Houston Quilt Festival Marathon

My sweetie and I returned Sunday afternoon from Houston tired but happy.  The Houston Quilt Festival blew us away –  so much creativity and expertise all in one spot.  We took three days to look and still didn’t see it all.  It’s taken me an hour to edit all the pictures I took but don’t worry, I’m not publishing them here all at once.  There will be blocks of them on separate posts.  Today I’ll start with the hotel.

We were fortunate enough to get reservations at the Hilton Hotel located right across the street from the convention center.  So convenient to go back to the room and rest when tired then go back to the Festival and look some more.

The lobby of the Hilton featured this hand-blown glass light fixture that was out of this world.

Here is the view of a glass skyscraper and the Astros baseball park from our hotel room window.

This is the park and pond directly next to the hotel as seen from our room window.  There was lots of activity there Saturday morning with a group exercising and music being played.

The George Brown Convention Center was to the right when viewed from the window.  It’s even bigger than it looks and it looks pretty darn big.

The bar in the hotel lobby displayed this gorgeous world map as a backdrop.

Yes, we visited the bar.  More about that another time.

In keeping with the quilt theme of the weekend, I couldn’t resist taking a picture of the patchwork-style carpet in the hallway in front of the elevators on the 14th floor where our room was located.   Mitered borders and everything!  It’s amazing where you can find quilt design ideas.

More about the quilts in the next post.

  1. That looks like a Dale Chihuly chandelier. Love it and the carpet design.
