Block 45 Port and Starboard
This is my version of block #45 of the Civil War anniversary quilt designed by Barbara Brackman. The name of the block is Port and Starboard. Fortunately, I had some fabric with an anchor and flag motif that fit the theme perfectly. Also, there are stars, moons, and suns fabric in honor of ship navigation methods. I think all the corners and points matched up well. The only problem is that this 8 1/2 inch block came out to 8 3/8 inches. I may be able to coax the additional 1/8th inch with some spray starch and vigorous ironing.
Be sure to visit the Flickr Civil War Quilt group to see photos of all the blocks that have been made to date. There are so many different fabrics, fussy cuts and such that inspire us.
The weather here in north central Texas is cooler now and we’ve had some rain several times in the last few weeks. However, we need more rain to make up for the lack of it the rest of the year. Sure not missing those dry, 110 degree days. No sirree!
Nothing else much going on. We are just kicking back and taking it easy.
Sew until next time,

Looks great, Donna! I love the flag and the anchor. Funny, my block was a tad bit over 8 1/2 inches. I guess my scant 1/4 inch seams were a bit too scanty!
ReplyDeleteI'm still catching up with my blog reading LOL! Your block turned out great and I notice that the cat loves quilts too!!!!
