Surprise Baby Quilt

I received a baby shower invitation for my niece who is due at the end of October.  Me with my head in the clouds hadn’t even though about a baby quilt.  Her shower is in two weeks!  Uh-oh!!!

So I’ve dug through my “resource center” (aka “stash””) and came up with this combo.

This is not a good photo but here it is from another angle.

The focus fabric is a Noah’s Ark theme and will be in the center surrounded by scrappy border and pinwheel blocks in the corners.  At least that’s the plan at this point but subject to change if it’s not working for me on the design wall.

It’s a boy so my niece is going for blues and browns.  I’ll just punch it up with some other colors as well.  Question is, should I use 100% cotton batting for thin thickness or polyester for puffiness?  Any opinions?
