JUST TAKES 2 BLOCKS 1-6

Since I made a red and white quilt in 2011, I wanted to go with a different color combination.  Basically, what fabric I had in my stash in sufficient quantities to make the Just Takes 2 quilt became my color choice.  As it was I still had to order 5 more yards of the background fabric.  I’ve also posted this photo of completed blocks to the Just Takes 2 website.

My applique is done by machine rather than by hand.  I remembered a tip given on one of the blogs I read or maybe even read it in one of my quilting magazines about a quick way to transfer templates.  Instead of tracing the applique shape onto my Steam-a-Seam 2, I could run the pattern through my printer instead.  A big caveat:  Use only adhesive sheets that have paper on BOTH sides.  If you try this without the paper against the adhesive side, you will have one big ole mess inside your printer with icky melted adhesive.

There was just one problem with this.  My main fabric is black, and the printing on the Steam-a-Seam 2 came out so light, it was pretty hard to follow the line when cutting it out.  The next time I will probably choose a different color of ink that will show up better on the black fabric and increase the print quality setting to "high".  As you can see, I was able to get it cut out and sewn down just fine.

That’s the stabilizer poking out from the back of this block.  I always use stabilizer when satin stitching around the applique shapes for a smoother outcome.  When the stitching is done, I just tear it away.

Friday the 13th has come and gone.  I slept right through it because I wasn’t feeling well!

Otherwise, no problem at all.

Until next time,

  5. Your bold blocks are fantastic! I'm working on set 2 now and am a bit concerned that the pattern isn't accurate. I'm ok with working out the corrections but can't seem to find a central place on the JustTakes2 website for corrections - have you seen one?
